Summary:
We are seeking experienced military medical professionals to serve as Cultural Liaison Officers supporting WRAIR-Africa's international infectious disease surveillance and biomedical research mission.
The Cultural Liaison Officer serves as the primary advisor for military engagement, strategic partnerships, cultural integration, and coordination with host nation Ministries of Defense, Ministries of Health, military medical services, and partner organizations.
This position plays a critical role in strengthening multinational collaboration and facilitating successful execution of surveillance and research activities.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
• Serve as the primary liaison between WRAIR-Africa and host nation military organizations.
• Build and maintain relationships with Ministries of Defense, Ministries of Health, military hospitals, and research institutions.
• Advise leadership on cultural considerations, military customs, and regional engagement strategies.
• Support establishment and sustainment of surveillance activities at military and civilian partner sites.
• Coordinate meetings, site visits, and stakeholder engagements.
• Assist with protocol implementation and operational coordination.
• Provide cultural guidance, translation support when needed, and strategic communications.
• Facilitate collaboration between Government personnel and host nation partners.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
• Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience.
• Former or current military officer with experience in military medicine, public health, or healthcare leadership.
• Experience working with multinational or international partners.
• Ability to travel extensively throughout assigned region.
• Travel: Frequent travel within assigned country and throughout the AFRICOM Area of Responsibility
• Must successfully complete a Tier 1 National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) (or applicable host-nation equivalent) as part of the onboarding process.
