Role Description
The Billing Clerk is responsible for preparing accurate patient bills, processing payments, verifying insurance details, and ensuring all maternity services are billed correctly. The role ensures smooth patient financial transactions while maintaining excellent customer service and compliance with hospital billing procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Prepare and issue accurate invoices for all patient services including consultations, ANC visits, scans, laboratory tests, pharmacy items, delivery packages and procedures.
• Review inpatient and outpatient insurance bills to ensure they are accurately billed and submitted to the insurance company
• Balance daily cash collections and reconcile against system reports.
• Liaise with customer care during client discharge
• Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility at the end of the day
• Prepare documentation required for insurance claims submissions.
• Follow up on pending insurance claims and approvals.
• Handle billing inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a professional manner.
• Ensure all services during admission (consultations, medications, theatre, lab tests, newborn services) are captured before discharge.
• Coordinate with nursing and pharmacy teams to confirm completeness of patient bills.
• Maintain accurate billing records and patient payment documentation.
• Safeguard patient financial information and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications
• Proficiency in Billing Process and Invoicing
• Strong foundation in Accounting and Finance principles
• Prior experience in a billing role in a hospital is required
• Experience with processing insurance claims
• Effective Communication skills
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
• Proficiency in using billing and accounting software
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
