Role Description The Education Commissioner is a full-time, on-site role based in Nairobi County, Kenya. This role is responsible for overseeing education policy development, implementation, and evaluation within designated jurisdictions, in alignment with Sardine Can’s public policy objectives. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing education data, drafting policy recommendations, coordinating with local education authorities, and engaging with community stakeholders to assess needs and outcomes. The Education Commissioner will prepare reports, briefings, and presentations for decision-makers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure policies are equitable, sustainable, and evidence-based. The role also involves monitoring regulatory compliance, supporting program approvals, and representing the organization in relevant meetings and public forums.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated expertise in education policy, public administration, or a closely related field.
• Strong skills in data analysis, research, and policy evaluation to support evidence-based recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and present complex information to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate with government agencies, schools, and community organizations, and to manage stakeholder relationships respectfully and effectively.
• Ability to work on-site in Nairobi County, Kenya, with strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities.
• Master’s degree in Education, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a similar discipline is preferred; a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience in program management or regulatory oversight in the education sector is an advantage.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of educational policy and implementation.
