Overview
We are seeking a social media & marketing intern to support the planning, creation, and management of digital content across our social media platforms. This role is ideal for a creative and motivated individual seeking hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and audience engagement. The social media & marketing intern will collaborate closely with the communications and programs teams to amplify Worldreader’s impact and storytelling online.
This is an unpaid hybrid internship based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Scope of Work
• Assist in creating and scheduling engaging content for Worldreader’s social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
• Support the development and execution of social media campaigns aligned with organizational goals.
• Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and support community engagement.
• Track and analyze social media performance metrics and prepare basic reports.
• Collaborate with programs and communications teams to collect and share impact stories, photos, and videos.
• Support content creation, including graphics, short videos, and captions.
• Assist in maintaining a content calendar and ensuring timely posting.
• Conduct research on social media trends, best practices, and audience preferences.
• Support digital promotion of events, campaigns, and partnerships.
Time Frame
June 10 - October 9, 2026
Up to 15 hours per week
Deliverable
Submit a final report and/or presentation culminating your experience in front of Worldreader staff at the end of the internship.
Desired Qualifications
• Must be a Kenyan resident and an undergraduate currently enrolled at a 4-year university, or a postgraduate studying Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Must work from the Kenya office at least once per week.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends.
• Basic skills in content creation tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite) preferred.
• Creative, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.
• Must have own computer and reliable internet connection.
• Commitment to the time frame.
